Electrician in Rahway, New Jersey

Bathroom Electrical & Wiring
Rahway, New Jersey

Classic Electric can help you remodel your bathroom. Coordination and planning are essential to a beautifully remodeled bathroom. The electrician has to be able to communicate with the other subcontractors in order for his work to be done the right way the first time. A quality general contractor knows the importance of communication and is worth his weight in gold in the remodeling field.

What are the dimensions of the mirror used above the vanity? Will there be tile installed on the wall? If so, how high off the finished floor? If these questions aren't answered the wall-mounted vanity light(s), GFCI receptacle, and wall switch may not be in the right place and may need to be moved after finishing materials have been installed. Who wants that? This is why communication and planning are so important on any remodeling project.

The main electrical requirement for bathrooms in the home is that all receptacles be GFCI protected. GFCI is an abbreviation for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. A dedicated 20-amp circuit is required for a renovation if any electrical work is done. The lighting does not need to be on its own circuit but it is encouraged to install a dedicated 15-amp circuit to avoid overloading any existing branch circuit. Exhaust fans are not required if there's a window in the bathroom but are encouraged to remove damp air that could lead to damage caused by mildew and/ or mold. Light/ exhaust/ heat/ night light combination fans are available and required venting can be done by Classic Electric.

Pendant light fixtures, and chandeliers, while beautiful and elegant, don't always meet the requirements of lighting fixtures used in a bathroom. Here is the rule; the bottom of the chandelier or pendant light if used above a tub has to be at least 8' above the tub and/ or at least 3' from the edge of the tub. Recessed lights in the shower need to have the proper trim and do not need to be GFCI protected.

Jacuzzi tubs are a terrific addition to a newly remodeled bathroom. Simply put, model type and manufacturer need to be known before any wiring can be done. Some come with separate electrical heaters, some don't, and the electrician needs to know ahead of time what to wire for. Also, if you are watching your bottom line (and who isn't), you may want to avoid any Jacuzzi motors that operate on 240 volts because GFCI protection for such a motor is sometimes 3 times the cost of the standard 120 volts protection. Several appliances bought and sold in Europe are rated for 240 volts at 50Hz. In the United States we use 60Hz electrical rating.
